If you search for 1234, you will only find bikes with serial numbers of 1234 and serials close to that - not a bike with serial number of 12345689. Okay, fine, so maybe there are a few bikes without serial numbers, but this is rare and typical only on hand made bikes or really old bicycles. The H905 is the highest serial number I've have seen. The Eclipse was the 5th model of the Storm Series, hence 1235-5, the last 5 meaning 5th and last ( best ) model. The bowl paint is pretty much indestructible and I actually like the pickup choice more than on the Thunderhead and Tornado counterparts.
The serial number location varies by engine. To find it, reference the illustrations and descriptions below. Always obtain the serial number when possible. The serial number can help determine the engine model and also help determine the correct service parts and changes based on serial number breaks. Our goal is to partner with you to help you build your business. We will set up a demonstration that suits your needs, whether you want us to cook your current product, show you a range of new products, or do a side-by-side comparison with another oven we are ready to show you what Ovention can do. There should be a paper label inside the guitar. This is where you find the serial, too. Some Ovations also have the serial on the neck block, but this is rare. By looking at the pictures - don't you have better pics?? - it looks like a MiC Ovation Celebrity CC24 to me.

The Ovation serial numbers in the late 60's had a letter followed by three digits. These continued until about 1971 when the current all numeric system came into play (with the exceptions of the electrics, starting with the first Breadwinners which were E, followed by 4-5 digits. The question would be, why were the sequences (sp?) changed every so often to start with a different letter? Did the numbers go from 1-999 and a new number started? I started thinking about this when I started wondering when the Glen Campbell Deluxe Balladeers were built and how many were built. From the few clues I have, I think they were built from mid 68 until the first GC Artist models came out in mid 69. But Witko's got one in the A sequence and I've got one in the B. His was built in the summer of 68 and mine was built in the winter of 68/69. Anybody have any insights? It's been estimated that about 50-100 of these guitars were built. Any body?

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 15436 Location: SoCal | Dave told me the serial number and it fits for the summer of 68. I would guess that Glen's was built at about the same time. Dave's was probably sold in the fall of 68. Glen probably was using his (yours)by then (he didn't use it on the Smothers Brothers Summer Show -- for that he was using the Mosrite acoustic). Tell me if that makes sense or if I'm missing something. Glen was using his second one with the fanicer initial inlays and the inlay dot at the 19th fret by the time Merle Haggard was a guest on March 12th. And as we know, by the second season the GC DB's were history.

Joined: January 2002 Posts: 14069 Location: 6 String Ranch | The first serial numbers were a letter and three numbers stamped into the heel block. Not sure how far it went into the alphabet. (or were these just numbers?) The second system was again a letter with four numbers (maybe?) but these were on the lable, not stamped into the block. The third system is the current system that only covers US made. The thunderheads and all would be under the second system. I don't recall if the letters meant anything, I'm thinking not but that might not be right. The solid bodies would be a separate bunch of numbers and I'm thinking that these were all E something for guitar and B something for bass I'm sure there are some holes in what all I just said but it's a good start at getting this answered. All comments and additions welcome.

Joined: June 2005 Posts: 2 Location: grand prairie, tx | I am amazed at all the respoinse trying to help me. The guitar looks like pictures of the Elite but pictures are never a good way to identify something. It has the leaf holes in the medium depth body and the p24+ electronice. The serial number was all in black on the inside to the body where I could see it through the leaf holes. Im not looking to get rid of it, but would like to know when people ask me what the model is. Just got it thursday and I'm wearing my fingers to the bone playing with it. I've always played Gibson jumbos and Martin 15 and 18 series acoustice. This has every bit as good a sound although slighting different. It has plenty of bass and when played through my fender bass amp, it is awesome. I knew very little about ovations but I pick my instruments by sound and when I played this in tha pawn shop I knew it was a quality instrument. Are there any celebrity serial number lists available?

Anyone else heard of this???....I haven't. Roger

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 14 Location: Canada | I see your point. I totally forgot about the potential E-Bay fraud. But moons ago I had a link to a site where I would type in the make, model and serial number of a guitar. It would tell me the where it was made, when it was made and a brief history of the guitar.

I see that the site isn't as bad as I feared...you have to have the make, model and serial number to get a history. That's different. I understood that the site would give you make and model FROM a serial number. THAT'S SCARY. And very open to use by eBay-using crooks. Roger

Joined: May 2003 Posts: 4389 Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Point of order: Cracking the code does refer to a manufacturer. If a crooked ebayer wants to lie about the make and model there's nothing you can do. In fact, people do that already, selling guitars they don't have. So be scared now. Big deal.

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 14 Location: Canada | Perhaps I am just too honest then. I never even thought about the potential. Hmmm.....come to think of it, I think it was a Martin make that I looked at moons ago. I have an Ovation that I recently acquired that I would like to find the exact month/year it was made. Is there anyway I can find that out online? Simply out of curiousity really.

It gets a little more upsetting when they can add a legit serial number to it, though. The potential is there to cause problems for the legitimate owner of the instrument. You can find out the year, but no more, from the 'Cracking The Code' area on Ovation's website, or within the 'Reference' area within the OFC site. See where within the band of numbers for a year where your serial number is, you can make a fair guess as to what month it was manufactured. Roger |
